Accounting shortage crisis in the news

The Wall Street Journal reports that companies are dealing with a shortage of accountants in the marketplace even as the regulatory environment becomes more complicated.

The big four accounting firms cite higher turnover and a tightening job market as primary causes. Many college graduates are foregoing advanced training in graduate school for the prospects of an immediate payday.

Large accounting firms like PricewaterhouseCoopers are even going so far as to recruit prospective accountants before they even enter college.
